Active school transports 2.0

Published: 12 June 2019

Luleå University of Technology in collaboration with Region Norrbotten is now expanding the project on Active school transport to five municipalities in Norrbotten. Region Norrbotten investment in this is in line with their new public health strategy for an improved and more equal and equal public health 2026. The aim is to increase the physical activity and reduce the sedation of children and young people in Norrbotten through active transport.

Aktiva skoltransporter 2.0

In order to inform parents of the school children in the five municipalities, an information brochure, an information film and other marketing activities will be produced.

In the autumn, parents with children in grades 2 and 5 in the relevant municipalities will receive a letter containing information that also contains two key rings.

Advice for you as a parent:

Let your child go cycling! It has never been so safe for children to travel independently in traffic as it is now.

BUT: it is you who knows your child and your immediate environment. If you feel uneasy, it may be a good idea that you follow all or part of the road or that children travel together in groups.

If, for various reasons, it is not possible to find a complete solution, the child can walk or cycle part of the road.

Advice to schools:

We recommend to show the movie on parenting meetings and spend a few moments on questions and reflection.

Teachers can encourage Active Transport. Tips on assignments anchored in the curriculum can be found on Luleå municipality's website for their public health project .

Engaging more professional groups, for example, the school nurses may contribute with regard to the health aspects, the police or the NTF (link to the website) in terms of road safety and the municipality's social planning regarding environmental issues.

Think about how practical issues such as parking bicycles can be solved all year round. Maybe students can be involved in making solutions?
