Protect yourself from cyber threats

Published: 7 February 2020

The risk of a company being exposed to digital threats increases at the same time as the threats are constantly changing. During CyberNorth you will learn more about the risks and how to protect your business against cyber threats.

We often hear about cyber attacks, viruses, hackers and data breaches. We read about systems that have been attacked, information that has leaked online or to foreign power and about malicious code that can knock out critical infrastructure.

A large part of the data breaches aims at SMEs and the cost of an attack can be devastating. However, with increased awareness and knowledge, the risks can be reduced and managed.

– 95% of incidents related to information security are caused by the human factor. However, many companies lack the ability to avoid or reduce the consequences when an incident occurs, says Johan Lugnet, researcher in Information Systems at Luleå University of Technology.

– It is difficult to estimat exactly how many companies that are affected by data breaches each year. Studies show that only one third of the companies that are exposed report it to the police, so the dark figure is large.

Listen to experts

During CyberNorth, the participants get to listen to some of Sweden's foremost experts on Information Security. IBM and Volvo Cars talk about their challenges of digitalisation and demonstrate security solutions, and Jan Olsson from the Swedish Police explains, among other things, how crime has changed. Anne-Marie Eklund Löwinder, Security Manager at the Internet Foundation and one of the world's seven Internet key carriers, lectures on how to create a security culture within an organization. Håkan Sonesson, IT Security Director at Jönköping University, will highlight strategic information security and security culture within organizations.

– The speakers will give their best tips on how to think about security and protect yourself against risks, says Johan Lugnet.

– Hopefully this day will be useful for both the expert and the person without experience of cyber security. Whatever your background, you will surely leave Vetenskapens hus with new perspectives and insights.
