2009-01: On January 28th and 29th Marco Bertoni from the division took part in the 2nd Nordic Conference on Product Lifecycle Management (NordPLM'09), which was held in Göteborg at Lindholmen Science Park. NordPLM is organized bi-annualy and represents the leading Nordic forum for presenting and exchanging new research results and experiences from industrial applications of PLM. Chair for the conference was Professor Johan Malmqvist from Chalmers University.
The paper presented by Marco Bertoni and co-authored by Åsa Ericsson and Tobias Larsson has conveyed the audience attention towards the actual challenges in developing functional products. The paper discusses the problem of matching needs and requirements in a lifecycle perspective, dealing with the design of innovative product-service system combinations. More in detail, a need matrix, from the economic theory of needs, and a requirement matrix, from the TRIZ methodology, have been used to reason upon the integration of customer statements and product specifications in PSS design.
The peculiar point of view of the study has stimulated a creative discussion around functional products and around how PSS may be developed/deployed in the Nordic industrial landscape. Among other things, the conference has also given Marco the occasion to meet (and have fun with) a former PhD mate, Dante Pugliese, currently consultant for the Scandinavian market of a Standard Based Engineering solutions provider.
