Annelie Hedström’s main scientific interests are related to the development of resource efficient, robust and sustainable systems for municipal and domestic wastewater management. Within the sewer pipe area and the work related to the research cluster Stormwater&Sewers, the research involves topics concerning pipe renewal and coordination with street renewal, inflow and infiltration in sewers, integrated pipe systems and impacts on sewers from changing household practices and appliance of food waste disposers as well as water and energy efficient appliances in households. Within the area of resource efficient and small-scale wastewater treatment systems studies are carried out concerning, experimental method development and field studies to investigate the function of on-site wastewater systems. Processes and systems for greywater treatment are also investigated, as well as management of blackwater. Annelie is also involved in research related to advanced stormwater treatment components such as coagulation and flocculation processes, membrane filtration and zeolite filters. Annelie has also been involved in research projects related to the planning processes for implementation of more sustainable urban water system. Regularly, Annelie is involved in projects related to evaluation of system solutions and development of decision support tools using multi criteria methods.
