Annelie Hedström’s main scientific interests are related to the development of resource efficient, robust and sustainable systems for municipal and domestic wastewater management. Within the sewer pipe area the research involves topics concerning pipe renewal and coordination with street renewal, inflow and infiltration in sewers as well as integrated pipe systems. Within the research area of resource efficient and small-scale wastewater treatment systems, field studies are carried out to investigate the function of these on-site systems, including treatment of microplastics and micropollutants. Low-intensive, decentralised nature based solutions for wastewater treatment are also studied. Processes and systems for greywater treatment and water reuse are also investigated, as well as nutrient recovery from blackwater. Annelie is also involved in research related to advanced stormwater treatment components such as coagulation and flocculation processes, membrane filtration and zeolite filters. Annelie has also been involved in research projects related to the planning processes for implementation of more sustainable urban water system. Regularly, Annelie is involved in projects related to the evaluation of system solutions and development of decision support tools using multi criteria methods.
