After receiving his master degree in Computer Science and Technology from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden, Karl Andersson started his professional career as a consultant, project manager, business developer, and branch manager within the Capgemini Group. Returning to academia as a PhD Student he obtained his PhD degree after defending his thesis "On Access Network Selection Models and Mobility Support in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks". After visiting Columbia University in the City of New York as a postdoctoral researcher and the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), Tokyo, Japan as a JSPS Fellow, Karl is now Associate Professor of Pervasive and Mobile Computing at Luleå University of Technology (LTU), Skellefteå, Sweden. His research interests include mobility management, heterogeneous wireless networks, access network selection, location-based services, and mobile e-services.
During January-June 2015 and again from February 2017 Karl is also leading Centre for Distance-spanning Technology (CDT) as acting executive director. CDT is a joint research centre at LTU where the IT industry together with LTU maintain a project portfolio in the areas of Internet of Things, Datacenters, and Communication Networks.
Karl is a senior member of the IEEE (S'06, M'10, SM'11) and a senior member of the ACM.
