Research project: Playgrounds accessibility and usability for children with different abilities

To build playgrounds from official rules and guidelines is a first step towards making this environment accessible however play is also a social experience and therefore it is not enough just to remove the physical barriers. Playgrounds need to be play areas that also improves social inclusion. If a playground provides physical access without creating social access this could actually emphasize a child’s disabilities rather than their capabilities. This makes it even more important to listen to children with disabilities and to find out how to make playgrounds that are physical accessible and that promotes social interaction.
