Matthias Borris main scientific interests are related to urban stormwater quality and its potential future changes, due to changes in influential factors, (i.e. climate change, progressing urbanization and environmental policies).
Matthias has a special interest in urban stormwater quality models, which are used to assess such potential future changes to suggest meaningful adaptation strategies. In addition Matthias focusses on processes affecting stormwater quality, as for example pollutant accumulation and transport from high trafficked urban road surfaces and the effect of different piping materials in the storm sewer network. Targeting on a deeper understanding of those processes, Matthias develops management strategies to improve stormwater quality and to reduce negative effects on receiving water. Furthermore the new knowledge is used to improve stormwater quality modeling.
