About me
Rasmus Klapp conducts research on nature-based technologies for small-scale wastewater treatment as a PhD in the Urban Water Engineering group at LTU since 2020. The research includes how reed wetland systems can be used to treat raw wastewater, and how micropollutants such as pharmaceutical residues are treated in, and spread from, soil-based treatment systems.
The aim of the research is to increase the knowledge of nature-based treatment methods, so that we can treat our wastewater in the best way possible. This includes evaluating how the mentioned wetland system functions in cold climate, concerning operation and treatment efficiency, and if adaptions are possible. The method is interesting since it requires no sludge management, which potentially make it a resource-efficient solution for wastewater treatment in rural areas. The aim is also to investigate how well pharmaceutical residues are treated in such systems, since it is important to know how we impact our environment.
