Soraya Tharani is a doctoral student in English Linguistics at the Luleå University of Technology. Her research deals with language attitudes towards English, multilingualism, globalization and language policy in the United States and in Sweden. Her main areas of interest are sociolinguistics, pragmatics and cultural studies.
She has lived in Sweden for the last ten years with her husband who is Swedish-Finnish. They met while serving with the United Nations in the Former Yugoslavia. She was born in Mozambique and has grown up and worked in Portugal and England.
Since beginning her thesis, she has lectured in the History of the English language, Cultural Studies and Spanish for Beginners.
