My research expertise is in the area of sustainable construction, with a particular focus on how to use information technology to quantify the life cycle energy consumption and environmental impacts of building. I have articles authored or co-authored in several international research journals, including articles in Journal of Cleaner Production, Energy and Buildings, Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, Automation in Construction, Construction Management and Economics.

1. Design for mitigating emission of greenhouse gases in industrialized construction (2013-2016) 3,150,000 SEK, The Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (Formas).
The purpose of the project is to include environmental requirements and constraints into the design and development of building platforms. The construction sector generates a large amount of the global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Current environmental efforts typically focus on operational stage (such as energy-efficient building, passive house and zero energy building) and forgo the opportunity to reduce emissions by analyzing and comparing alternative materials, construction methods, transportations, and on-site activities. That is, the designing of construction supply chain in terms of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The research project aims at including environmental requirements and constraints into the design and development of construction supply chain. Three research questions are formulated: (1) what kind of product, process and supply chain data is needed in order to be able to simulate the GHG emissions in the construction supply chain? (2) How to incorporate the inherent variability and stochastic in construction project into the simulation and assessment of GHG emission? (3) How does the type of building system impact on GHG emissions?
2. Reducing pollutant emissions from construction: an international research project (2017-2021), The Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (Formas), I was granted the project as “future research leader”.
The overall purpose of the proposal is to consider reduction of pollutant emissions on global scale. The main objectives are: (1) to examine the pollutant emissions sources from materials extraction, component production, materials/component transportation, site construction and demolition stages. (2) to compare alternative building designs, materials selections and construction/demolition methods in order to reduce pollutant emissions at source.
3. Developing education collaboration on green construction between Sweden and China. 2015-2018. The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education, (STINT), 1,500,000 SEK.
The project is to develop double-degree education programme between Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT, China) and Luleå University of Technology (LTU, Sweden). I am the main sponsor and responsible for the project.
