Non-polar molecules such as CH4 and N2 are infrared inactive but this pair can absorb infrared light thanks to the collision induced absorption (CIA). Indeed, in planetary atmospheres, this process is responsible of a big part of the absorption in the infrared range of the light spectrum.
Using a classical approach, the goal of my researches is to compute very accurate CIA coefficients for this molecules pair. This data will be used in a radiative tranfer code in order to simulate the CH4 - N2 infrared absorption in planetary atmospheres.
