Khanh Thi Loan, Master of Science in Nursing, and Luu Tuyet Minh, Doctor of Obstetric and Gynecology at Hanoi Medical University give a lecture on the Nursing programme.
In 2014, the first teachers from Luleå University of Technology went to Hanoi Medical University, HMU, and the following year, two teachers from the Vietnamese university were visiting Luleå University of Technology. The guest teachers are involved in the education in the Nursing program, but also at specialist level and other programs. The exchange is a way to internationalize the programs.
Nursing role in Vietnam
During three weeks, Luu Tuyet Minh, Doctor in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Khanh Thi Loan, Master Science in Nursing, are visiting Luleå University of Technology. Their lectures focus on their specialties, but also on health care and the Nurses role in Vietnam. The teacher exchange promotes the ability of both teachers and students to broaden perspectives and integrate global perspectives into the programmes
– I have come here to share my experiences from Vietnam and learn from you here in Luleå. When I return, I will share the new information from Sweden with my colleagues in Vietnam, says Dr Luu Tuyet Minh, HMU.
New experience with distance education
The teaching includes lectures for students who go on a regular basis, where teachers and students meet in the classroom, but also for students who conduct distance education.
– Using information and communication tools in the teaching is a whole new experience for us and that's something we hope to use in the future, says Khanh Thi Loan.
In addition to lectures, the teachers participate in skill laboratories where students practice clinical moments. They also do study visits to get an insight into how the Swedish health care organization works.
Want to expand the partnership
Students from Luleå University of Technology are able to do parts of their education abroad, including at Hanoi Medical University.
– We are very pleased to have students from Luleå University of Technology and in the future, I hope there are opportunities for Vietnamese doctors and nursing students to come here, says Dr Luu Tuyet Minh.
Funds for teacher exchange come from Linnaeus-Palme Partnership, which aims to promote an interest in working with development cooperation abroad, but also at home. Through the partnership, the university can increase the student's ability to work on global issues even after graduation. For teachers, the collaboration provides added value in the teaching, as the international experiences can be used in the education.
– We hope that we will beable to continue this well-established cooperation. Next time we will apply for teacher and student exchange, which is of interest to our two universities, says Päivi Juuso, International Coordinator at Department of Heath Sciences, Luleå University of Technology.
