BIOLIFT is a joint Indo-Swedish project, supporting research activities for a circular economy. BIOLIFT will exploit and combine multidisciplinary expertise to establish an integrated plastic waste refinery, able to valorise plastics waste by coupling mild thermochemical and microbial processes towards production of plastic monomers and high-value microbial metabolites within a circular economy strategy. The environmental impact and the potential to promote a circular economy of the innovative upcycling process will be assessed through Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), including market share for recycled products, and compared with conventional recycling. In addition, technoeconomic analysis of the whole concept will identify important challenges that each country faces before an industrial implementation of the technology can be realized.
