Selection

The selection is based on final school grades or Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test.



Course Aim
After the course the student should be able to:
  • explain what systems science is and describe the role of the systems scientist.
  • explain basic concepts in systems science and the connections between these concepts.
  • apply theoretical knowledge of information systems by analyzing a company's information system
  • describe traditional system development, object-oriented system development, agile development.
  • write a minor scientific report
  • plan and carry out a simple project
  • report the project in writing and orally

General skills according to the Higher Education Ordinance:
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding in the main area of education
  • Demonstrate the ability to search, collect, evaluate and critically interpret relevant information in a problem statement
  • Demonstrate the ability to independently identify, formulate and solve problems and to carry out tasks within given time frames
  • Demonstrate the ability to orally and in writing describe problems and solutions

Realization
Each course occasion´s language and form is stated and appear on the course page on Luleå University of Technology's website.
Scheduled lessons are followed by theoretical and practical tasks; Quiz, oral presentation, scientific report and a Group work where the students examine a real-life company. Knowledge is shared and created within the course through virtual meetings with teachers and other students for discussions, supervision, teamwork and seminars. For student on campus there will be meetings on campus.

Examination
If there is a decision on special educational support, in accordance with the Guideline Student's rights and obligations at Luleå University of Technology, an adapted or alternative form of examination can be provided.

Remarks
Technical Requirements: Access to a PC with Windows XP, microphone, Web cam and permission to install software. Internet connection (minimum 1Mb/sek) . For more information contact the course coordinator.

Transition terms
This course cannot be combined with IED300, IED400, IED402, IED425, IED435, IED006 or IED008 in any degree.
