Entry requirements

In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language + Swedish upper secondary school courses Mathematics 2a/2b/2c (specifik entry A7). Or: Swedish upper secondary school courses Mathematics B (specifik entry 7)

Selection

The selection is based on final school grades or Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test.



Course Aim
The course will develop the students: 
-knowledge about basic mathematical concepts and methods as a base for studies in other courses
-skill to conduct numerical calculations by using current technical tools 
-ability to express themselves appropriately and convincingly in speech and writing depending on purpose, recipient and medium
-knowledge of what characterizes different types of technical texts such as product descriptions, manuals, reports and popular science articles 
-skills to retrieve information from libraries and databases
-different study techniciques
-ability to use different digital media to communicate with other students and teachers 

Contents
The mathematical part focuses on practical mathematics, ie:
-numerical calculations
-equations and inequalities of the first degree or higher
-coordinate- and equation systems
-formulas
-geometry 
-trigonometry
-linear and nonlinear functions
-exponential och logarithmic functions 
-statistics

The communication part focuses on information retrieval and library knowledge, study techniques and using the language as a tool. Practical exercises (oral and written) are in the form of narrative-, descriptive-, investigative- and argumentative texts. The exercises also include reference techniques as well as argumentation and presentation techniques.

The computer part focuses on calculation tools (mainly Excel) and internet communication (mail and Canvas). 

Realization
The course consists of lessons, practical exercises and laboratory exercises.

Written assignments, tests, oral- and written presentation
