In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language and Degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The selection is based on 1-165 credits.

Course Aim
The student should, on completion of the course, have acquired knowledge of failing vital functions and be able to theoretically and practically apply individual care and treatment strategies based on evidence and current research in emergency care.

  • Physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the onset of acute diseases.
  • Theory and placement directed towards the acute and critically ill patient with failing vital functions.
  • Drugs that can be used in acute conditions.
  • Advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to national guidelines.
  • Simulation exercises with realistic patient cases.
  • Practical exercises.
  • Evidence-based medicine

To reach the level descriptors, the student should work independently, based on the literature and through group cooperation according to the instructions in the study guide. As support for the individual studies, the students are offered lectures and resource time via distance-bridging technology. Training and examination in the simulation laboratory and CPR laboratory are carried out on at most two occasions on campus. A computer with headset and web camera is a requirement to carry out the course.

The objectives are examined in the form of written individual examination, seminars and practical modules according to the below test descriptions. Criteria for pass and pass with distinction are stated in the study guide
