Entry requirements

In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language and The course assumes knowledge equivalent to: M0073H Medical Science, Medicine and Surgery O0006H Nursing, Nursing in Elderly Care O0019H Nursing in Psyciatric ill-health O0022H Nursing, Nursing Primary Care/O0029H Nursing, Nursing in Medical/Surgical Disease

Course Aim
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
  • describe aetiology, pathophysiology, diagnostics, treatment and prognosis for the diseases that are included in the course
  • observe, assess and respond to critical conditions in the nurse's area of responsibility
  • describe the nurse's intervention in an emergency situation
  • apply practical and theoretical knowledge in medical simulation, CPR and CPR for intants and children
This knowledge is of importance to enable good and patient safe care in the future career as a registered nurse.

Realization
The course is designed for a future work as a registered nurse. Learning is based on individual studies and group studies of literature with reflection on the contents. As support for the individual studies there are lectures and study material. The studied material will be deepened through medical simulations, seminars and workshops. The studies are carried out by means of detailed objectives and instructions in the course study guide.

Examination
Part of the content is examined in the form of an individual written examination and part in the form of a take-home examination, seminars and medical simulation. The written exam questions are formulated in such a way that students' ability to apply their knowledge in health care situations is tested. Grade criteria are in the study guide.
