Course Aim
The student should, on completion of the course, be able to:
  • independently observe, assess, analyse and document care and nursing the needs of seriously ill/ injured patients in terms of nursing interventions and medically indicated measures, argue for these and apply them to:
  • evaluate and consider nursing actions based on the patient's needs
  • motivate and apply evidence-based nursing based on a clinical issue
  • take part in and independently perform examinations and treatments including palliative care
  • demonstrate a professional attitude vis-à-vis patients and their relatives
  • document the prehospital process and report to receiving authorities
  • integrate knowledge and analyse, assess and handle complex issues and situations
  • demonstrate the ability to integrate knowledge and analyse, assess and handle complex issues and situations
  • explain and motivate management functions and working methods in disasters and accidents
  • interact with different authorities prehospitally at the emergency scene
  • apply his/her specialist knowledge in serious accidents and catastrophes
  • demonstrate self-awareness with a reflective and empathetic ability
  • apply current laws and regulations
  • document scientifically
  • identify the need for additional knowledge for continuous skill development

  • Nursing interventions and medically indicated measures for the ill/seriously injured in treatment with a focus on hypothermia/drowning, chemically contaminated, intoxicated and in impending prehospital childbirth

Teaching and learning take place through individual studies, lectures, study assignments, seminars and placement under supervision. Participation in seminars and placement is compulsory.

If there is a decision on special educational support, in accordance with the Guideline Student's rights and obligations at Luleå University of Technology, an adapted or alternative form of examination can be provided.

Grading criteria for Pass and Pass with distinction are stated in the study guide Only one transfer is given for the course with respect to the placement. If there are special circumstances, a further transfer can be granted. Special circumstances are those stated in regulations from the National Agency for Higher Education HSVFS 1999:1.

This course is given for second-cycle studies within specialist training to become an ambulance nurse and is a placement course.

This course, with clinical placement are subject to Special rules regarding clinical placement according to Head of Department decision.  

Study supervision is provided in the course room in Canvas.
