The selection is based on 20-285 credits



Course Aim
The student should, on completion of the course, with an ethical attitude,
  • prevent illness and reinforce and retain health in children/adolescents and their families
  • suggest, explain and describe appropriate nursing interventions and medically indicated measures from an evidence-based approach
  • support parenthood
  • motivate and support breast feeding and good food habits
  • analyse and evaluate the child's psychomotor development, and sight, hearing and growth
  • apply observation methodology
  • analyse the importance of, and interact with different professional competences
  • apply current laws and regulations
  • document scientifically
  • document care and nursing
  • critically review and evaluate research results
  • demonstrate self-knowledge and empathetic ability
  • identify the need for additional knowledge for continuous skill development

Realization
Teaching and learning take place through individual studies, application of theoretical knowledge and placement. Placement takes place under supervision. Lectures will be given in selected course sections. Attendance is compulsory at laboratory sessions, seminars and placement.

Examination
•    Individual examination - parenthood and breastfeeding
•    Completed written assignments
•    Assessment of professional competence
Grading criteria for pass and pass with distinction are stated in the study guide. Only one re-examination/transfer is given for the course in relation to the placement. If there are special circumstances, additional retakes/transfers can be granted. Special circumstances are those stated in Regulations of the National Agency for Higher Education HSVFS 1999:1.

Remarks
The course is given for second-cycle studies within the program Specialist Nurse in Primary Health Care.

This course, with clinical placement are subject to Special rules regarding clinical placement according to Head of Department decision.  


Study supervision is provided in the course room in Canvas.
