Entry requirements

In order to meet the general entry requirements for first cycle studies you must have successfully completed upper secondary education and documented skills in English language and 30 credits completed courses with at least a passing grade in the subject psychology.

The selection is based on 1-165 credits.



Course Aim
Knowledge and understanding
After completing the course, the student should be able to show knowledge and understanding

 
  • Of different personality theories and how they can be applied in personality development and in therapeutic context.
  • Of the grounds in differential psychology and the basics of test theory and how it is applied in diagnosis and selection.  

Skills and abilities
After completing the course, the student should be able to show the ability to: 

  • Being able to describe the most established theories in the fields of personality psychology.
  • Being able to orally and in written format present scientific material in the field of personality psychology.
  • Collaborate in groups; plan a smaller project, and apply a critical approach to the scientific literature. 

Evaluation ability and approach:
After completing the course, the student should be able to show the ability to: 

  • Make assessments of theories in the field of personality psychology and its applications.
  • Demonstrate insight into psychological tests and their applications in selection and diagnosis

Contents
The course deals with the meaning of concepts and diagnoses linked to personality and also psychodynamic, learning psychological, phenomenological and social-cognitive theories and its applications. Parts of the course will also deal with psychological tests and their applications in selection and diagnosis and include practical elements such as oral and / or written presentation of scientific material in the field.

Realization
Each course occasion´s language and form is stated and appear on the course page on Luleå University of Technology's website.
The teaching consists of lectures, seminars and group work, but also of a smaller individual work / laboratory that will result in scientific presentations of the work.

Parts of the implementation of the course may take place in English

Examination
If there is a decision on special educational support, in accordance with the Guideline Student's rights and obligations at Luleå University of Technology, an adapted or alternative form of examination can be provided.
The course is examined through a written individual exam of 6 credits according to the grade scale U, G or VG and a minor scientific work, 1.5 credits according to the grade scale U or G. All included examination parts must be completed for final grades on the course.
