Former LTU-student behind Europe's largest lithium battery factory

Peter Carlsson, former Procurement Manager for (the electronic car manufacturer) Tesla is now the Chief Executive Officer for Northvolk AB, a company set to establish the largest European factory for lithium batteries, here in Sweden. Peter Carlsson graduated from Luleå University of Technology in 1995 and has since held top positions in Ericsson Mobil, Sony Ericsson, NXP Singapore, Tesla and now Northvolt.

In a press release from Vattenfall Peter Carlsson, who was named Luleå Unvieristy of Technology Alumni of the Year in 2015, says that the bid to build Europe’s largest battery factory aims to aid and enable the fossil free energy systems of the future. The construction of the battery factory is planned to commence during the second half of 2018 with large scale production expected to be established by the end of 2020. The aim is that the factory will be the largest of its kind in Europe and provide the transport sector as well as other industry with sustainable energy storage solutions.

In addition to Vattenfall, the Swedish Energy Agency and Vinnova have contributed financially to Northvolt.
