Inspiring talks by honorary doctors

Published: 13 November 2015

Two CEOs, a Research Director and a writer. The faculties’ election of honorary doctorates for 2015 was Birgitta Olofsson, Hans Hansson, Sara Mazur och Katarina Kieri.

The honorary doctorates at Luleå University of Technology gave four interesting presentations that contained both history and future. The Luleå-born writer Katarina Kieri for example talked about her roots from Tornedalen Valley and a time period with strict language policy that got thousands of people not to bring their mother tongue to their children.

An honorary doctor’s degree is appointed to individuals that have not chosen the academic track, but otherwise achieved equivalent academic level and deserves the dignity the doctoral title implies. It is part of the University's commitment to openness and contacts outside the traditional research community.
