The scholarship is awarded to a student who, with a clear commitment and good study results during the past year, has completed his degree in the Higher Education Diploma Programme in Works Management in Civil Engineering program at Luleå University of Technology. The scholarship of SEK 10,000 is awarded by Byggföretagen Norrbotten in collaboration with Luleå University of Technology and Norrbotten's Builders' Association.
Martin Ottosson has worked in the construction industry since graduating from high school. In 2019, he chose to take a step further in his career and began studying the Higher Education Diploma Programme in Works Management in Civil Engineering program at Luleå University of Technology. The studies were completed in an exemplary manner and Martin graduated in January 2021. Martin's positive attitude and ability to take on different challenges is inspiring for both fellow students and colleagues. Martin had no difficulty in directly making use of his newfound experience and today works with construction calculations at Contractor in Skellefteå.
What did you do before you started studying at Luleå University of Technology?
After high school I worked as a carpenter and before I started studying I was employed at a medium-sized company in Skellefteå.
What made you start studying?
I wanted to develop and take the next step in my career. The construction and civil engineering program at Luleå University of Technology seemed to be a perfect education for me.
What did you think of the education?
Interesting and broad education that fits well with the needs of the industry. The layout is good with many practical courses where you really learn what you need.
What was it like to start studying again after working a few years as a carpenter?
At the beginning of the training, it was a big change. Partly to go from working practically all day to sitting still and studying, but also to resume study technology after several years of work.
Where did you do the internship and what tasks did you have to work with?
I did my internship at Contractor in Skellefteå where I got to try out a few different tasks, including tender calculation, tender writing, purchasing work, work preparation and work management. I also wrote my thesis in collaboration with Contractor and when I finished my education I was offered a job.
Do you have any advice for those who are considering studying this program?
Two years go by so fast and the labor market has a great need for the skills that you get at the Higher Education Diploma Programme in Works Management in Civil Engineering program at Luleå University of Technology. You will not regret it!
