Professor of English at the Department of Health, Education and Technology

Cathrine Norberg is Professor of English at Luleå University of Technology. She has a PhD in linguistics and a teaching degree for upper secondary school in English, German and Italian. Her main research interest is corpus linguistics with a focus on gender and educationally related issues. She has been involved in a number of research projects within these fields. Corpus linguistic methods have also been used in projects to study representations of northerness. 

Together with her colleague Marie Nordlund at Luleå she is currently involved in in a project where corpus linguistic methods are used to study vocabulary in English textbooks for Swedish primary school. One of her doctoral students’, Denise Bergström,  area of research is within this field, but with a focus on materials used in upper secondary school.

She has been involved in a number of cross-disciplinary projects where corpus linguistics and critical discourse analysis have, among other things, been used to study the gendered construction of mining and the representation of women in the construction industry. Together with a colleague at Umeå University, Heidi Hansson, she is the editor of the volume Cold matters: cultural perceptions of snow, ice and cold. 

Cathrine Norberg is pro vice chancellor at Luleå University of Technology.
