More information about English language requirements SelectionThe selection is based on final school grades or Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test.Course Aim Knowledge and comprehension After passing the course, the student should be able to: Describe and explain human development with respect to physical, cognitive, social and personal development, from the prenatal period to aging and death. Describe and explain various theoretical perspectives on human development. Skills and abilities After passing the course, the student should be able to: analyze cases and scenarios by means of theories within the field of developmental psychology investigate human development through labs present scientific material within the field of developmental psychology in oral/written form Appraisal and approach After passing the course the student should be able to: Critically reflect on how knowledge within the field of developmental psychology can be applied in everyday situations. Contents The course focuses on three related areas of development in the human life cycle: Physical development: What are the roles of nature and nurture? How do motor skills and the senses develop? Cognitive development: How do memory, language and thinking develop? What is intelligence? Social and personal development? Who am I? How do relationships with other people develop? Within the three areas, the question of how and when development proceeds into decline will be addressed as well as the question of what is normal. Realization Each course occasion´s language and form is stated and appear on the course page on Luleå University of Technology's website. The teaching typically consists of lectures, seminars and laboratory work as well as self-studies. The mandatory labs allow students to apply theories and methods within the field of cognitive psychology. Some teaching materials are accessed and some communication between students and teachers is made possible in the internet-based course platform on Canvas. Parts of the course may be in English.Examination If there is a decision on special educational support, in accordance with the Guideline Student's rights and obligations at Luleå University of Technology, an adapted or alternative form of examination can be provided.
