Frequently asked questions about maintenance engineering and studying at LTU, including distance learning.

Is there a need for engineers in Maintenance Engineering after completing training?

Today, there is a great need in the industry for skilled personnel for maintenance, both in Sweden and abroad. Education Bachelor of Science in Maintenance Technology is designed to meet industrial needs. This means that there are good opportunities for work after completing their studies and pay is good today with a starting salary of about 30 000 SEK / month.

Can you study abroad during their studies?

Yes, LTU has contact with many universities, both in Europe and worldwide. The courses you can study abroad is the elective courses in year three, study period three. The other courses in the curriculum are given Enda at the university and the exam must be written in your learning center.

The work in Maintenance Engineering can be done abroad.

Is it possible to practice while studying?

It does not include any practice in the training of maintenance engineering. However, our "sponsor" offer certificates and summer jobs to maintenance engineering students who want more practical experience. As a rule, students themselves organize these jobs but the department can help with contacts.

What are the eligibility requirements?

We need special permissions plus Math, Physics B and Chemistry A.

Have you got admission in both autumn and spring?

No, we just assume the fall semester of engineering education in Maintenance Engineering.

What is the difference between a Bachelor and a Master?

A bachelor trained for three years to work directly in industry and have much practical knowledge. A civil engineer trained for five years with a broader scientific base and to develop new technologies and new ways of working. The wage terms, the civil engineer to have a higher salary than the engineer.

Can you choose different endings within the program?

No, maintenance engineering has only a conclusion but year three is your chance to immerse yourself in one of the three maintenance areas of process industry, infrastructure and property.

How is the distance teaching the program?

All lectures broadcast via Adobe Connect Pro. The course is a mix of interactive lectures where you can talk and see your teacher in real time and pre-recorded elements.

Students at the campus in Luleå have the opportunity to sit in the broadcast studio and teach.

Do I have to go to Lulea often?

You will need to go to the LTU during your training period for compulsory modules. It can vary depending on the course but no more than two hits per semester in addition to those who read in Filipstad.

Where can I stay when I visit Luleå?

There are many different solutions to the lodging for you as a distance student. At LTU's website you can read more about accommodation in Luleå.

Do I study a lot alone as a distance student?

You will have a lot of tasks to be solved together with others. There are opportunities to create appointments for student groups via Adobe Connect Pro.Of course, even Skype and other interactive media use among students.

What distinguishes a distance program from a program that runs on Campus?

As a student in a distance program, you have the same rights, obligations and responsibilities of those who read on-campus programs. Goals and requirements are the same, and you can of course study with others but with the help of interactive media.

What equipment is required to read the program remotely?

You need computer and internet access at home. You also need to have a headset with microphone and a webcam for meetings / seminars in Adobe Connect Pro (Web-based meeting).
