Frequently asked questions about maintenance engineering and studying at LTU, including distance learning.

Is there a need for engineers in Maintenance Engineering after completing training?

Today, there is a great need in the industry for skilled personnel for maintenance, both in Sweden and abroad. Education Bachelor of Science in Maintenance Engineering is designed to meet industrial needs. This means that there are good opportunities for work after completing your studies.

Yes, it is possible to read through to engineering after completion engineering. 

Is it possible to practice while studying?

It does not include any practice in the training of maintenance engineering. However, our "sponsor" offer certificates and summer jobs to maintenance engineering students who want more practical experience. As a rule, students themselves organize these jobs but the department can help with contacts.

Have you got admission in both autumn and spring?

No, we just assume the fall semester of engineering education in Maintenance Engineering.

What is the difference between a Bachelor and a Master?

A bachelor trained for three years to work directly in industry and have much practical knowledge. A civil engineer trained for five years with a broader scientific base and to develop new technologies and new ways of working. The wage terms, the civil engineer to have a higher salary than the engineer.

How is the distance teaching the program?

Most of the teaching are codnucted during the day using Zoom and Teams and a learning platform called Canvas. On a few occasions per semester, we meet a few days on campus in Luleå for laboratory work. During a school year, there is a maximum of 20 days of compulsory attendance on campus. Distance education gives you opportunities for flexible learning, but at the same time requires that you plan and organize your studies.

You will need to go to the LTU during your training period for compulsory modules. It can vary depending on the course but no more than two hits per semester in addition to those who read in Filipstad.

Where can I stay when I visit Luleå?

Do I study a lot alone as a distance student?

You will have a lot of tasks to be solved together with others. There are opportunities to create appointments for student groups via Teams. 

What equipment is required to read the program remotely?

You need a computer with a headset and webcam as well as a good internet connection.
