"This was the exact knowledge that could advance my career"
Johnny Asber is 31 years old and comes from Syria. He is studying the Master Programme in Maintenance Engineering.
Why did you choose to study this master program?
After two years of experience in the oil and gas industry, as mechanical technician, I decided to go for further studies and learn more about maintenance. The industry of the future really needs a high class of experienced engineers who can understand modern methodologies and apply the latest tools and technologies. Reading all courses syllabus available in this program also helped me to make this decision and apply for this program at Lulea University of Technology, as at the time I was sure that this was the exact knowledge that could advance my career.
What do you like about the city of Luleå?
The city is really modern and people are so kind here. Those I met here will not forget them forever. What I liked most was that I had the opportunity here to learn a lot about the differences between cultures, as the city here can be described as a multicultural city. Last but not least there are many outdoor activities that run during the study year, especially for those who have come to enjoy the snow. Nature is great here and the air is really fresh
What plans do you have after your studies?
Today, my goal is to get back into the industry as quickly as possible and find a job, where I can participate in the process of finding right solutions for future operation and maintenance challenges.
Do you have any advice for future students at the university?
The knowledge you will get here is really important for future, so try to get the most of it. You will learn about many different subjects related to operation and maintenance and you will also learn how to use programming to improve maintenance efficiency. Try to focus and participate during the lectures, as you will learn a lot while discussing many different topics related to maintenance with teachers. Do not hesitate to ask your teachers for help, they would be very glad to help you.
