Aaron Sunstein

About me

Aaron Sunstein is an American organist and music theorist. He serves as universitetslektor at the School of Music in Piteå where he teaches organ, music theory, and ear training. He has primary responsibility for degree programs in Church Music and Organ as well as for the classical music theory course sequence. He holds the degrees PhD in music theory and DM (Doctor of Music) in organ performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (2020). He has previously worked as a church musician in Sweden and the United States. His dissertation and research currently relate to the music of the Italian baroque composer Girolamo Frescobaldi. He has won prizes in three American organ competitions. He plays the complete organ works of American composer Gunther Schuller and in 2015 premiered that composer's Symphony for Solo Organ (a piece which was previously deemed unplayable) in Boston. Aaron enjoys collaborative prtojects and in 2022 played with Erik Westbergs Vocal Ensemble and Norrbotten NEO. In 2021, he performed as organ soloist with Umeå Baroque Ensemble and completed a project with the regional dance company Dans i Nord and composer Jörgen Häll with the title A Dance in Time. 

Aaron lives in Piteå and loves to explore nature in the north of Sweden together with his family.
