Dr. Cecilia Wallmark is since March 2022 Director of the hydrogen initiative Centre for Hydrogen Energy Systems, Sweden (CH2ESS) at Luleå University of Technology. CH2ESS is a research and knowledge initiative with a focus on hydrogen use in industrial processes and energy systems, in close collaboration with Swedish industry and global stakeholders. CH2ESS provides education, excellent demand-driven research and accelerates the implementation of hydrogen in the society. Dr. Cecilia Wallmark has been active in the fuel cell and hydrogen area since 1999. Today she is seen as a central person within hydrogen in Sweden. Her experiences include research, industrial management, and stakeholder processes.
As a Director of CH2ESS Cecilia Wallmark lead the research and educational collaboration between academia, industry, energy companies and public partners. The collaboration strategy is to head for a broad collaboration on regional, national, Nordic, European and international level, including multidisciplinary research. The research priorities is under lead of Dr Wallmark close connected to barriers identified with assistance of a broad stakeholder collaboration and CH2ESS partners. Cecilia Wallmark is further project manager of ongoing research projects, both performing research on aspects such as stakeholders, energy supply, safety, hydrogen infrastructure, business development and societal aspects within the hydrogen area. The work also includes teaching, planning for new education and courses for students, companies and the public, and to be actively involved in spreading knowledge.
In her previous position, as Section Manager for Sweco Energy Strategies, Cecilia initiated and developed the Sweco international hydrogen network involving 10 countries and 150 experts in different disciplines, and performed approx. 60 hydrogen related projects as a consultant. Among these projects included to support the Swedish Energy Agency in preparation of the suggested national strategy for hydrogen, 2021, and to prepare the first European Synthesized Infrastructure Plan on Hydrogen for Transport, 2015. Dr. Wallmark started within the hydrogen area as a researcher at The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) within design and evaluation of fuel cell systems, and has been Managing Director for Opcon Autorotor, supplying customized components for fuel cell vehicles on a global market, and Chair of the board at Hydrogen Sweden.
