Research Project: European Network for Alloys Behaviour Laws Enhancement (ENABLE)
The ENABLE project has received funding from the European Union's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Innovative Training Netwroks (ITN) H2020-MSCA-ITN-2017 under grant agreement No 764979. This is a collaborated project involving 5 universities and 12 industries based in 6 European countries.
Research Subject: Experimental characterization and modelling of aluminum alloys behaviour under different thermo-mechanical load
The aim of the research is to identify the mechanisms that govern the plastic response for aluminum alloys for a wide range of temperatures, strains and strain rates. It includes the study of the stress-strain behaviour and the overall response from high strain rate Split-Hopkinson pressure bar tests and low strain rate Gleeble tests performed within different temperature ranges. Microstructural characterisation of the tested samples needs to be performed in order to formulate, calibrate and validate material models for phenomena like phase transformations, dynamic recrystallisation and grain growth during the deformation of aluminum alloys at high temperatures and strain rates. Furthermore, the research work also involves simulations of manufacturing processes where extreme strain rates and temperatures get developed for example, in cutting or in Friction Stir Welding.
