About me
A Mining Engineer striving to ensure sustainable and secure supply of raw materials by slowing and closing material loops. Extremely passionate about environmentally friendly recycling technologies and stock & flow modeling for keeping track of raw materials. My interests also include devising policy relevant metrics, environmental impact assessment, and business plan development. I enjoy working on novel ideas and devising optimal solutions for broadly relevant problems. My peers and coworkers would describe me as a purpose driven individual who maintains a proactive attitude and a true team player. Currently, I am working as a PhD researcher at Lulea University of Technology to develop an environmentally friendly recycling process for lithium from lithium-ion batteries.
Education
I did my bachelors of Mining Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan from 2014-2018. For my masters, I got the opportunity to come to Europe under Erasmus Mundus Scholarship in the program Sustainable and Innovative Natural Resource Management (SINREM) from 2019 to 2021. The master studies were divided among three universities Ugent in Belgium, TU Frieberg in Germany and Uppsala University in Sweden. During my masters I got a deeper understanding of complexities in raw material value chain in relation to sustainability, got hands on experience in the chemistry lab and learned about business plan development. My Master's thesis was with the Joint Research Centre, European Commission, where we focused on developing circular economy indicators by using a dynamic material flow analysis of cobalt flows in the EU. From 2022, onwards I am working as a PhD at Luleå University of Technology, and my research focus is on recovery of lithium from spent NMC lithium-ion batteries by using hydrometallurgical processes. The main focus is on processes such as leaching and crystallization.
