About me
I really enjoy when things are active around me. I like to learn something new everyday. I believe that almost all goals are achievable with enough belief and teamwork. The best thing for me is developing thoughts, processes, and operations with my colleagues.
In my leisure time I read, take long walks, fish, and spend time with family. What I love most is vacationing in places where I can explore new cultures, foods, and museums, ideally with my family.
With over 20 years of R&D experience in structural engineering, I joined Luleå University of Technology (LTU) as a chaired professor in 2020. I have led and contributed to multiple research projects on large structures such as concrete bridges and dams, working with diverse methods and tools to assess and enhance their performance and safety.
I'm a certified Maxwell Leadership fellow and strive to be a better leader everyday. I have supervised and mentored several MSc and PhD students and published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
Research interests
Today the world builds at an unprecedented pace. Construction industry is responsible for about 40% of the worlds carbon footprint. To reduce it, it is desirable to first, keep existing structures in service as long as possible, and second to design new structures to be recycleable or with a long life. The challenge here is how do we find the balance between the safety of the structures, the costs of making and using them and the impact on our environment. My work’s aim is to promote sustainability in the construction industry through sustainable-conscious structural design.
My objectives are to:
- develop methods to predict the life span of existing structures,
- provide solutions to extend their life when needed and
- quantify the impact of different decisions on the life length of a structure.
Professional expertise
