About me
Christian Holmberg Sjöling is a PhD student in English and Education and a part of the doctoral school PROFS (Practice-based Educational Research) at the Department of Health, Education and Technology at Luleå University of Technology. He started his PhD studies in January 2022.
Christian’s project is situated in subject didactics/corpus linguistics and is concerned with the assessment of Swedish upper secondary school students’ written texts with a particular focus on linguistic complexity and high-stakes EFL exams.
He also teaches a variety of courses within different programmes and:
- was the chairperson of the PhD Student Association at Luleå University of Technology (LTU) and doctoral representative on the university board of LTU between autumn 2022 to spring 2024.
- was a visiting research scholar at the English department of Northern Arizona University (USA) during the academic year of 2024/2025 (August-February).
- is a part of the editorial board of the Nordic Journal of English Studies since May 2025.
- will be a visiting research scholar at the Department of Computer Science and Technology, University of Cambridge (UK), as part of the Automated Language Teaching and Assessment (ALTA) group in autumn 2025 (October-November).
- was awarded the People's Choice Award during the Learner Corpus Research Graduate Student Conference (Chemnitz, Germany) based on its content, impact and delivery.
- will be a doctoral representative in an evaluation of the KTH Royal Institute of Technology conducted by the Swedish Higher Education Authority starting in spring 2026.
