My background as a researcher is rooted in psychology-based occupational health issues, as I earned my PhD at the Department of Public Health and Clinical Medicine at Umeå University in 2006. Since then, my research area has expanded to cover the broad field of psychology, with a focus on the individual. My research primarily includes areas such as attention and cognition, mental health, stress, aging, and brain plasticity related to lifestyle factors. In addition to applied and experimental research, I also collaborate with industry and companies on issues related to fighter pilot selection and psychological testing together with SAAB and the Swedish Air Force, and I also lead research projects with other large national organizations and companies focused on topics such as attitudes and motivations behind lifelong learning and concentration training for elite athletes.
I currently serve as the head of subject for psychology at our department, where I am responsible for matters related to ensuring research quality and its integration into education, as well as strategic issues aimed at developing the research subject. For several years, together with my colleagues and partners in the Region and the municipalities of Norrbotten, we have been working towards gaining the right to award degrees for a 5-year psychology program at LTU, and by the end of 2024, we will receive a decision. It is an exciting time!
Outside of academia, I am frequently engaged as a reviewer of positions, dissertations, and quality assessments of research activities at universities. My experience also spans areas such as project management for graduate schools, management group work, evaluation committee work, review panels, board member duties, and I am currently serving as vice-chair of the National Committee for Psychology at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
