About me
Academic background
Johan Frishammar is a full professor at the Entrepreneurship & Innovation research group at LTU and an affiliated research fellow at the House of Innovation at Stockholm School of Economics. He has B.Sc. & M.Sc. degrees in business & economics, a licentiate degree in engineering, and a Ph.D. in Industrial management.
Research
Most of Johan’s research is on innovation- and technology management and strategy in established companies and organizations, and he is ranked as one of Sweden's most productive researchers (top 1%) in the category "Business and management scientists" by Research.com.
His current research projects focus on sustainability transitions, circular business models, innovation measurement, digital platforms, alliances, and innovation in MedTech. His research is applied and often conducted together with industry, including leading companies such as Getinge, Ericsson, Scania, Volvo trucks, Volvo cars, BillerudKorsnäs, ABB, LKAB, Boliden, Metso, SSAB, Electrolux and others. He has received major grants from funding bodies such as the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research, Formas, Vinnova, Swedish Energy Agency, The Kamprad Family Foundation, and the Ragnar Söderberg Foundation.
Together with Jennie Björk at KTH he is the author of Innovationsstark External link., a book about how companies and other organizations can measure innovation. He has published 100+ peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and conference papers, including articles in leading journals such as MIT Sloan Management Review, California Management Review, Research Policy, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Technovation, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, R&D Management, Long Range Planning, Journal of Business Research and others.
Teaching
Johan currently teaches courses in Circular economy, Innovation & strategic business development, Foundations of innovation management research, and supervises at the M.Sc. and Ph.D.-levels.
Editorial, administrative & other
Johan is the program director for the Industrial engineering and management program at LTU and is on the editorial boards of MIT Sloan Management Review, The Journal of Product Innovation Management, Creativity & Innovation Management, and Journal of Business Research. He is active in Norrlandsnavet and leads several ongoing research projects.
