Martin Åhlén

I am researching about design for energy-efficient and sustainable smart homes. I am particularly interested in exploring the line between interaction and automation, and the effect these have on people’s sustainable behaviours in the home. Energy awareness and visibility of consumption are two key components in reducing energy consumption, and through design I will explore various ways for how they might be employed in practice.

My research departs from the project “Nordic Innovative Living” which is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency through their research and innovation programme “Design for Energy-Efficient Everyday Life”.
