Research
My research concerns the role of environmental law in governing sustainable resource use, especially in relation to secondary resources such as waste. I am interested in how legal rules and principles affect the possibilities of promoting a circular economy, while ensuring environmental protection. A central theme is the tension between short-term protection against environmental risks and long-term resource efficiency – for example, how waste can be seen as both a problem and a potential resource. I have studied, among other things, legal aspects of landfill extraction, sewage sludge management and waste management in general. Particular focus is on how the concept of "waste" is defined in legislation and what consequences this has for the development of sustainable material flows and circular systems.
