Since February 2013, I have held the position of Chair Professor of Biochemical Process Engineering at the Luleå University of Technology in Sweden. I have previously served as Professor of Industrial Biotechnology at the School of Chemical Engineering, National Technical University of Athens.
Experienced as a postdoctoral scientist and visiting professor through Marie Curie European Fellowships across several prestigious institutions, including Belgium's University of Ghent, UK's Institute of Food Research, Denmark's DTU, and as a Wallenberg Fellow at Sweden's Chalmers University of Technology
My research is focused on the development of novel "green" technologies supporting sustainable carbon cycles keeping carbon “in the loop”.
I have published more than 450 peer-reviewed publications. To explore my research further, you can view my ORCID profile at 0000-0003-0079-5950 or my Google Scholar page:

Currently, I am managing ongoing projects with a total funding of approximately 7 million EUR.
I am recognized among the top 2% of the world's leading researchers in biotechnology, as per the Stanford University international ranking lists for the years 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. These rankings are a result of a comprehensive evaluation of the contributions of scientists worldwide in the field of biotechnology over their careers.
