More information about English language requirements SelectionThe selection is based on 20-285 creditsCourse Aim The Master’s programme in music performance focuses on four interacting perspectives, all of which aim to put one’s own music performance in a context: - Interpretation - Analysis - Tradition/Innovation - The public interaction This course is a continuation of Music Performance - Conducting 1 and aims for continued development of the set goals. During the course, the student shall have: - acquired knowledge, skills and working methods to be able to independently study and perform music as a conductor - acquired knowledge about, performance practices and a sense of style - developed his/her own artistic integrity through critical examination of music as a form of expression, its traditions and values. Contents Gestures and beating techniques Score studies, techniques and methods Rehearsal methods Performance practice Analysis of scores, addressing form-, harmonic-, historic-, instrumentational- and compositional aspects Realization Each course occasion´s language and form is stated and appear on the course page on Luleå University of Technology's website. In the skill training of gestures and conducting techniques, parts of the teaching take place with the help of a rehearsal pianist. In choir conducting, the student works with the Master’s choir every Master week. In orchestra conducting, the student participates in a production with professional symphony orchestra and students from the composition class. Other weeks than “master weeks” can be considered in dialogue with the student. Examination If there is a decision on special educational support, in accordance with the Guideline Student's rights and obligations at Luleå University of Technology, an adapted or alternative form of examination can be provided. Every teaching session constitutes an examined presentation of assigned tasks. The examination of the course takes place in final concerts/productions. In choir conducting, the student conducts a concert and recording with the Master’s choir. In orchestra conducting, the student rehearses and conducts a concert with works from the composition students written for and performed by a professional symphony orchestra. In the conducting assignments that the student must work with according to consultation with the teacher, following will be assessed and graded: Gestures and beating technique, methods to learn scores, rehearsal methods and communication with ensemble/choir and sense of style. For the grade of Pass with credit (Väl godkänd), the student must have demonstrated very good musical and conducting skills in the examinations. Remarks Students must register for the courses themselves, or contact ETKS educational administration eduetks@ltu.se, not later than three days after the quarter commences.
