Twan Rovers from Heesch in the Netherlands

Published: 2 May 2014

When I finished my bachelor’s program in civil engineering in the Netherlands, I was looking for a master’s program that primarily dealt with the environmental and climatic aspects of building and planning.

- I couldn’t find a suitable program in the Netherlands, and soon my attention was attracted by the master’s program in Climate Sensitive Urban Planning and Building at the Luleå University of Technology.

In this master’s program, I have chosen for a specialisation in Urban Planning and Design. Often the climatological influences on designs are insufficiently taken into account in urban planning projects, even though this is of gaining importance considering climate change, energy use, et cetera. I also experience that, in this program, different perspectives of both designs and planning processes are considered, which is of great importance when planning for a society in general.
