Master Programme in Data Analytics in Business and Economics
Do you have a degree in business or economics and want to strengthen your skills in analyzing large datasets? Then this programme is for you. The digital transformation and the explosion of data have increased demand for professionals who can combine economic expertise with data analytical skills.
In this programme, you will learn how organizations and companies can apply data analytical methods to large datasets in order to analyze economic problems and make better-informed decisions. By combining economic theory with data analytics and machine learning, it becomes possible to identify relationships, uncover patterns, and gain a deeper understanding of future developments in both businesses and the economy.
The programme is designed to strengthen your statistical and analytical skills. Students will also learn programming relevant to the fields of economics and business, and how to apply advanced statistical methods to explore and extract patterns from data, as well as how to integrate the results into economic analyses and decision-making.
The programme combines individual studies, laboratory work, projects, case studies, seminars, and lectures. You will also have the opportunity to establish valuable contacts with partners in Sweden and across Europe through the programme’s strong network. The programme is flexible and offered both on campus and online, making it possible for you to study on your own terms. With more than twenty years of experience in distance education, we can guarantee high quality for students who study remotely. Upon completion of the programme, you will have a deep and practical understanding of the application of data analytical methods in the fields of business and economics, opening up a wide range of career opportunities and positioning you at the forefront of the digital revolution.
The programme has two entry tracks, and you choose track based on the main field of your bachelor’s degree. The programme consists of 60 ECTS credits of compulsory courses and leads to a Master of Science (60 credits) with a specialization in data analytics within either Economics or Business Administration. The programme is given in English.
During your first term you will gain a foundational understanding of key concepts and principles in data science methods. You will gain insights into how to extract useful information from large datasets using various techniques. You will learn to understand, and use collected information to identify patterns and anomalies, enabling you to conduct statistical and predictive analyses in business related cases. You will also learn to use large datasets to analyze economic problems with advanced statistical and econometric methods, such as advanced regression models, panel data models, methods for handling endogeneity, Big Data techniques, and text analysis.
During your second term you will deepen your knowledge in programming, algorithms, and data analysis. You will learn the programming languages Python and R, which are essential for analyzing data and discovering patterns and insights. You will build machine learning models for prediction, classification, and recommendation. You will understand how algorithms work and can be used to forecast future behaviors and outcomes. Additionally, you will learn about text mining, gaining knowledge in analysing large amounts of text sources to transform unstructured text into structured data to identify meaningful patterns and insights. At the end of your education, you will undertake a degree project, which some students pursue at a company. In the degree project, you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills and make valuable contacts for your future career.
A master degree in Business Administration or Economics with a specialization in data analysis provides you with a solid foundation in a digital era where data is one of the most valuable assets. Your ability to analyze large datasets and extract meaningful insights makes you an invaluable asset to many companies and organizations.
