The university's future workplaces
Luleå University of Technology decided in 2020 that in the case of new production and remodelling of office premises, the design should, where possible, create activity-based offices.
The focus is to design new types of office workplaces that are flexible and have access to different types of environments that support different types of needs at work. The design of all office changes is based on tasks and needs and is developed together with the employees. This means that each activity-based office is needs-based and secured based on function.
Flexible and functional workplaces
The future workplaces meet high demands on sustainability and enables flexible office environments that can be easily changed based on new needs that arise in the future. It meets expectations for a professional and inspiring office environment that promotes research, education, meetings and knowledge exchange. It also creates the conditions to meet the financial framework that exists for the university's total premises costs.
Some starting points:
- The goal is to keep the divisions together as much as possible. When remodelling existing premises, the size of the unit must be adapted to the building's conditions. Division into units is made to facilitate orientation for both employees and students, but also to provide the opportunity to design the unit according to the needs of each business.
- The design of the workplaces is based on the work task and is developed together with the employees in a continuing process.
- The basic concept means that you don't have personal workplaces, but there will be room for everyone.
- Zones are introduced to support different types of work, from focused work to collaboration.
Activities and functions that the office environment must accommodate:
- A workplace to enjoy and be proud of.
- To be able to perform work that requires high concentration.
- To be able to talk undisturbed on the phone.
- To be able to interact and collaborate with students, employees and external parties.
- To record lectures, carry out teaching and meetings remotely.
- An ergonomic workplace.
- Storage and handling of personal work material.
- Clothing storage.
- A safe and secure working environment.
