"We will make them feel at home"
Every year, people from all over the world come to study for a semester at Luleå University of Technology. ESN Luleå (Erasmus Student Network) does everything to showcase the best our region has to offer.
Isak Uggla is the chairman of ESN Luleå. We caught up with him to hear him talk about how ESN works to welcome our foreign students.
Tell us, who are you in ESN Luleå?
"We are the Erasmus Network's section in Luleå and we are currently 13 who are involved in the association. ESN's goal is to ensure that exchange students who come to Sweden are easily integrated into university life. We will make them feel at home in everyday life and make life easier for our foreign students".
"Some of us who get involved have come in after being on exchange themselves. Some have had roommates from another part of the world and got in that way. Some of us come in through friends and want to make a difference".
What are your favorite things to show to students from other parts of the world?
"Lofoten is something that stands out incredibly much and is a cool experience. We have a collaboration with Time Travels that allows us to experience things and now you feel at home in both northern Norway and Finland. But many people appreciate getting to see the Ice Hotel, the mines in Kiruna, Storforsen and such".
"Then there is something called Sea Battle where all ESN sections go on a ferry together, it is a party cruise and a big and appreciated event".
Anything particularly fun you are doing in the spring of 2024?
"Right now for the spring given that there are exams now, there is less planning going on, but we have some things planned for April and May such as the trip to Lofoten in April. We post all our things on our Instagram with event calendar so you should keep track of what we have for activities!"
