Borrow books and e-books
Here you can find information on how to register for a library account, as well as how to borrow and return books. You can also learn about interlibrary loans, fees and how to search for books and e-books using the Library Search Tool.
Library account
To borrow books and request interlibrary loans, you need a library account. Employees within Region Norrbotten or medical students at Sunderby Hospital can create an account using the link below. Please use your Region Norrbotten email address to register. If you need assistance, you can also visit the University Library.

Borrowing books
If you are an employee within Region Norrbotten or a medical student at Sunderby Hospital, you can borrow books from the University Library. We will send the book to your workplace. If you are a medical student, the book will be sent to the RLU administration at Sunderby Hospital for you to pick up. Follow these steps to have the book sent:
- Search for the book using the Library Search Tool.
- Select All filters, Source Types and Books.
- Select the title of the book you want to borrow.
- Reserve the book by selecting Access options and Find or Reserve.
- Select Place hold in the top right corner.
- Log in to your library account.
- Select library to pick up at: Universitetsbiblioteket, Luleå.
- When it's your turn to borrow the book, you will receive a message asking if you want the book sent. Reply to the message and ensure that your address is correct.
- The book will then be sent to you.
You may also pick up the book at the University Library.

Returning books
You can return books by internal mail, mark the package with Luleå University Library. You may also return the book in person at the University Library.
Renew loans
If you want to extend the loan period for your books, you can do so via your library account. Log in with your personal number and PIN code. If there is a queue for the book, extending the loan will not be possible.
Make a reservation
- Search for the book using the Library Search Tool.
- Select All filters, Source Types and Books.
- Select the title of the book you want to borrow.
- Reserve the book by selecting Access options and Find or Reserve.
- Select Place hold in the top right corner.
- Log in to your library account.
- Select library to pick up at: Universitetsbiblioteket, Luleå.
- When it's your turn to borrow the book, you will receive a message asking if you want the book sent. Reply to the message and ensure that your address is correct.
- The book will then be sent to you.
Interlibrary loan
If we don't have the literature you need, we can borrow it from another library. You can place an order through:

Fees
Late Fees for Course Books:
- The maximum fee is 100 SEK per book.
- If a book is not returned, it will be considered lost. The replacement cost is 800 SEK per title and will be added to your library account. This cost applies to all types of books and materials.
- The replacement cost will be removed from your account if the material is returned, but any overdue fees must still be paid.
- Paid replacement costs cannot be refunded, even if the book is returned.
- Fees are applied as a debt to your library account, which will be blocked until the debt is settled. You can pay your debt online via My Library Account.
E-books
If you are on Region Norrbotten's network, you will be able to open e-books automatically. If you are outside the network, you will need to log in with your Region Norrbotten account.
Borrowing e-books
- You can search for e-books using the Library Search Tool.
- Select All Filters, Source Types, and eBooks.
- Go to the title of the book you want to borrow.
- Select Access Options.
- Different icons will appear, such as Fulltext?.
- Select one of the icons and log in with your Region Norrbotten account. Depending on the publisher, the web pages may vary. Look for a download button to read the e-book.
- If the Medical E-Library does not have the book, the Request This Item icon will appear. Note that you cannot reserve e-books. Instead, you can contact us to submit a purchase proposal via the link below.
