Alexandra Müller's research interest is in stormwater quality and is mainly related to identifying and investigating pollution sources of urban stormwater. The research also covers methods for representative stormwater sampling as well as the potential effects of stormwater on the surrounding environment and consists of both laboratory and pilot scale experiments as well as field sampling of stormwater and snow in urban areas.
Alexandra defended her thesis in 2022 and the scientific work of the thesis focused on investigating the potential contribution of pollutants from traffic and different urban surfaces and materials, such as roofs or facades, to surface runoff. The pollutant groups studied included both metals and organic pollutant groups.
