My research interests encompass various aspects of waste management, including characterization, treatment, and utilization, with a particular focus on developing remediation techniques for soils contaminated with priority pollutants. Over the past 20 years, we have studied and applied multiple remediation methods, such as chemical stabilization, stabilization/solidification, thermal treatment, soil washing, and, more recently, electrochemical oxidation for treating waste streams contaminated with arsenic, copper, chromium, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and PFAS.
Currently, I serve on the executive boards of the International Waste Working Group (iwwg.eu) and the national Clean Soil Network (renarekar.se) and as a member of the advisory board for the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency on waste statistics. In 2022, our research was recognized by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) as one of the top national research projects, highlighting technology’s role in the service of humanity.
