Research Area

Katharina works with stormwater and stormwater control measures (SCM). In lab experiments she investigated how different plant species affect the metal and nutrient treatment performance of bioretention systems. Further the impact of bioretention systems on metal speciation was investigated. Katharina evaluated also if the results she obtained in the lab studies can be confirmed in the field. She investigated how bioretention systems remove and accumulate microplastics and how floating treatment wetlands contribute to microplastic contamination in the environment. Further, microplastic in urban stormwater and snow was studied. With her studies, Katharina wants to support the sustainable implementation of SCMs and microplastic research in Sweden and world-wide.
