About me
I am a Registered Nurse, Doctor of Medical science and a Senior Lecturer in Nursing science. I am also proud to belong to the Swedish national minority Tornedalians. I grew up in Pajala and Piteå, did my undergraduate studies in Gothenburg but since 2010 I have landed in Luleå where I live with my daughter. I have a burning interest in traveling and discovering other cultures. I have lived longer periods in Vietnam, USA and South Africa. I defended my thesis in May 2021 at Karolinska Institutet on the thesis (In Swedish with English abstract) “Dying to talk - methods and tools for conversations about dying, death and future care at the end of life External link, opens in new window.
Teaching
I teach in various courses at the nursing program and the specialist nursing programs based on my expertise in public health perspectives on dying, death and grief as well as my scientific training. I regularly supervise student theses at bachelor and master level.
Research interests
My research interest concerns new public health perspectives on dying, death and bereavement, that is, how we in society can be equipped with tools and preparedness to deal with issues related to dying and death. I have done research more specifically on conversations and preparation to face these issues. In my doctoral project, together with a number of community partners, we translated and adapted the so-called DöBra cards from the U.S. GoWish cards, originally developed by Coda alliance. The DöBra deck External link. has been sold commercially by Volante Book Publishing since 2018. It is important to emphasize that we as researchers do not receive any financial gain from the sale.
I prefer to conduct participatory action research together with various social actors affected by the research and in interdisciplinary research groups. Currently, I am active in three different research projects that in different ways aim to equip society and us as fellow human beings to face dying, death and grief:
EU-CoWork: Exploring and co-creating caring workplaces
Good and close end-of-life care in rural areas - a participatory action research project
Supervision
I supervise two PhD students as co-supervisors:
Rose-Marie Imoni External link. PhD student at Region Norrbotten and Dept. of Health, Education, and Technology, Luleå University of Technology. Co-supervisor. 2024-
Linnea Öman Olsson External link. PhD student at Dept. of Social sciences, Technology and Arts. Co-supervisor. 2024-
Collaboration
