Postponement or procrastination means that you decide to postpone or not complete a task you have set out to do for no given reason and instead do something else less important, even though it has negative consequences for you.
Procrastination
Procrastination is a learned pattern/behaviour that we learned once upon a time because it served a purpose for us. Usually when it comes to procrastination, it is not the studies that are the concern, but rather the discomfort we experience and thus how we deal with the discomfort.
What is positive about procrastination is that it is a learned behaviour and that it can be re-written, it can be influenced and it can be changed.
