Exercise and diet for physical health
The health benefits are great if we take care of our health through regular exercise and nutritious food.
Facts and advice on exercise
We all know that there are many health benefits to being physically active on a regular basis. We have more energy, sleep better, increase our chances of staying healthy and even live longer. We feel happier and more alert. Regular physical activity can also have a positive effect on depression and anxiety.
Memory, concentration, learning ability and creativity are stimulated by exercise. And your body becomes better at dealing with stress. So you increase your health and your chances of succeeding in your studies. What you do is not as important as how you move.
If you are unsure about how to get started with exercise/training, contact a health counsellor at the Student Health. You will find contact information at the bottom of this page.
Facts and advice on diet
A good diet is an important factor for you to feel good, both now and in the future, and a prerequisite for you to cope with your studies. This includes having a versatile and nutritious diet. The food you eat should be based on slow fibre-rich carbohydrates, protein and healthy fats. Fruits, vegetables and berries are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
It is also important to spread your meals evenly throughout the day. The whole body functions better and it is easier to eat the right amount if you eat regularly. This also keeps your blood sugar steady, which prevents slumps along with, for example, headaches, fatigue and difficulty concentrating.
